Lagos is gearing up for an exciting celebration of twins and multiple births with the upcoming TwinFest Africana, set to take place in August 2024. This announcement was made in a statement on Wednesday.
The event, organized by Tri-Sight Nigeria Limited in collaboration with the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism, promises to be a unique cultural festivity. Pekun Adeyanju, the Managing Partner of Tri-Sight Nigeria Limited, shared insights into the event during a weekend briefing with newsmen in Lagos.
Adeyanju highlighted that TwinFest Africana aims to honor the remarkable journey of twins and multiple births, from being stigmatized as “evil children” to becoming beloved members of various communities. “This festival celebrates the triumph of twins and multiple births, acknowledging their positive impact and the joy they bring to families and communities,” he stated.
Moreover, the festival seeks to emphasize Nigeria’s prominent status in the world of twinning. With Nigeria boasting one of the highest rates of twinning globally, the event will position the country as the epicenter of twinning worldwide.
Participants from across the African continent are expected to attend the two-day festival. In addition to celebrating twins and multiple births, TwinFest Africana will provide a platform to showcase Africa’s rich cultural heritage, including its fashion, cuisine, music, and oral literature.
The event will feature a variety of engaging activities such as cultural shows, a twins’ talent hunt, a quiz competition for different age groups, and a health talk. Other highlights include twins’ dancing competitions, a lucky dip, twin-celebrity success story sharing, photo galleries, and storytelling sessions on the evolution of twin births.
As cultural activities continue to thrive in Nigeria, TwinFest Africana is anticipated to serve as a precursor to the grand Yoruba Week celebration scheduled for September 2024. Earlier in June, Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, revealed that efforts are underway to ensure that these events meet world-class standards.
TwinFest Africana promises to be a vibrant celebration of heritage, unity, and the unique bond shared by twins and multiple births, marking a significant addition to Lagos’s cultural calendar.
