Matters between the United States of America and North Korea seem to be escalating, as the U.S President, Donald Trump has warned that North Korea faces ‘fire and fury like the world has never seen’ over its nuclear program.
In an apparent display of its readiness to back its words with action, the U.S released images of supersonic bombers flying over the Korean peninsula while American airmen in Guam have said they are ready to ‘fight tonight’. The North said the training mission ‘proves that the U.S. imperialists are nuclear war maniacs’.
Kim Jong-un, the North Korean dictator on his part has warned that the U.S will pay severely for the U.N sanctions that was recently imposed against his country. Reports also indicate that Kim Jong-un was ‘carefully examining’ plans to make ‘an enveloping fire’ around the US island of Guam which is home to about 163,000 people and a sprawling American military base.
The hostility between both nations has put other countries on standby with China staging ‘large-scale’ military exercises with dozens of ships, fighter jets and submarines adjacent to the Korean Peninsula on Monday – just months after moving 150,000 troops to its border with North Korea.
Russia, on its part has moved helicopters and combat vehicles to its southern frontier, with Moscow further displaying its own military readiness at a war games event recently organised in Siberia this week and also during a vast Navy Day parade in Vladivostok which is just about 100 miles from North Korean territory.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is however of the opinion that North Korea does not currently portend any threats.
He said ‘I do not believe that there is any imminent threat’ from North Korea, and ‘Americans should sleep well at night’.
