In a historic moment for Zenith Bank Plc, Dr. Adaora Umeoji officially took on her new role as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at the bank’s head office in Lagos on Monday. The bank celebrated her arrival with a video posted on its Facebook page, featuring the caption, “Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji OON, Group Managing Director / CEO, Zenith Bank Plc, arrives Zenith Bank Head Office in Lagos.”

Dr. Umeoji’s appointment, which was effective from June 1, was previously announced by the company’s secretary, Michael Otu, in an official statement. She succeeds Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose tenure concluded on May 31.

Dr. Umeoji brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Before her promotion, she served as the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank since October 28, 2016. With nearly 30 years in the banking sector, 26 of which were spent at Zenith Bank, she is well-prepared to lead the institution into its next chapter.

Her appointment marks a significant milestone for Zenith Bank, as Dr. Umeoji becomes the first female Managing Director in the bank’s history. This leadership change not only underscores Zenith Bank’s commitment to gender diversity but also its dedication to harnessing experienced and skilled leadership to drive the bank’s vision forward.

Dr. Umeoji’s extensive background and strategic vision are expected to bolster Zenith Bank’s position in the financial sector, as she takes the helm to navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.
