Governor Abdul Rahman Abdul Razak has formally endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the party’s gubernatorial primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The Governor made the declaration following what he described as “extensive consultations” with party leaders, stakeholders, and structures across the state, stressing that the decision was made in the collective interest of party cohesion, unity and continuity of governance in Kwara State.
In a statement announcing the endorsement, AbdulRazaq described Yahaya Seriki as a youthful, people-oriented, astute, and broad-minded political figure with deep grassroots acceptance and impressive political mobilisation capacity.
According to the governor, the APC aspirant has over the years demonstrated unwavering commitment to the development of Kwara State through strategic investments and sustained engagement with communities across the state.
“I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the All Progressives Congress,” the governor stated.
He added that he has absolute confidence in Seriki’s leadership ability and believes his emergence would further consolidate the achievements recorded by the current administration over the last seven years.
Governor AbdulRazaq, however, clarified that his endorsement does not in any way prevent other aspirants from participating in the APC governorship primaries, noting that all contenders remain respected and eminently qualified individuals with valuable contributions to make to the state.
He appealed to party members and leaders across Kwara to rally behind the candidacy of Yahaya Seriki in the spirit of unity and shared progress, while emphasizing the need for a peaceful and transparent primary process.
The governor also acknowledged the maturity, discipline, and statesmanship displayed by the other governorship aspirants, praising their commitment to sustaining the developmental strides of the administration.
Observers say the endorsement is expected to significantly shape the dynamics of the forthcoming APC primaries in Kwara State, as political stakeholders intensify consultations ahead of the crucial exercise.
The APC gubernatorial primaries are expected to attract keen interest across the state, with no fewer than 16 aspirants reportedly jostling for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
