The camp of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed claims that the governor reached a political agreement with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, made the clarification on Sunday in a post on X, saying the people of Osun State should be credited for Adeleke’s victory in the recent governorship election.
Olajengbesi said the election outcome reflected the resilience and choice of Osun voters rather than the result of any political arrangement.
“Do not undermine the resilience of Osun people. There is no agreement,” he said.
He added that the governor’s support for President Tinubu was based on the President’s performance and reforms, which he said had strengthened the economic position of states.
“Our support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is based on his performance and reforms that have strengthened states economically.
“Osun people voted Adeleke. President Tinubu simply ensured democratic rules were respected,” Olajengbesi said.
His comments followed a post by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, in which the minister thanked Adeleke for what he described as the governor’s public and unequivocal endorsement of Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
Keyamo had written on X: “Thank you, Governor Ademola Adeleke, for the public and unequivocal endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT for the 2027 Presidential Election.
“You are a man of integrity and honour. ‘Agreement is agreement.’”
However, Olajengbesi’s response sought to draw a distinction between Adeleke’s support for Tinubu and any alleged political deal, maintaining that the governor’s position was informed by the President’s performance and economic reforms.
He also maintained that Osun voters freely chose Adeleke at the polls, while Tinubu’s role, according to him, was limited to ensuring that democratic rules were respected.
