Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League table after securing a 1-0 victory over Liverpool, their first win at Anfield in 14 years.
Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the 16th minute, converting Declan Rice’s low cross to give the Gunners an early advantage.
The victory moved Arsenal three points clear of Manchester City in the title race, while Liverpool remained fifth, nine points behind the leaders.
Liverpool responded strongly after conceding, creating several opportunities to equalise during an entertaining first half. However, the hosts failed to convert their chances as Arsenal’s defence held firm.
Andoni Iraola’s side threatened through Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola, but their attacking efforts were repeatedly frustrated by the visitors.
Wirtz came close to drawing Liverpool level when his free-kick struck the crossbar, while Alexis Mac Allister missed a headed opportunity.
Arsenal also threatened on the counter-attack, with Bruno Guimaraes shooting narrowly wide and Alisson Becker producing an impressive save to deny Christos Tzolis in the second half.
The result provided a response from Mikel Arteta’s side following their League Cup defeat to fourth-tier Fleetwood earlier in the week.
Arsenal maintained their defensive discipline in the closing stages to secure their eighth victory in nine league matches and another clean sheet.
Meanwhile, the defeat dealt a setback to Liverpool’s hopes of challenging for the Premier League title, leaving them nine points behind Arsenal.
