The BATN Foundation has empowered 200 women in Jigawa State with poultry birds, feed and medication under its EMPOWER-Her Poultry Project, aimed at improving household income and strengthening food security.
The beneficiaries received the support after undergoing training in poultry production and enterprise management as part of the initiative launched in Dutse, the state capital, on September 4, 2026.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Jigawa State Government and development partners to equip women in rural communities with productive assets and skills to establish sustainable poultry businesses.
The foundation disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Project Manager of the foundation, Adetola Oniyelu, said the intervention was designed to help beneficiaries develop viable sources of income rather than simply distribute agricultural inputs.
“For us, empowerment goes beyond providing inputs. It is about creating opportunities for women to build productive businesses, generate income, contribute to household food security and strengthen their economic resilience,” Oniyelu said.
She added that the support would create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods while enabling the beneficiaries to contribute more to their families and communities.
The women received Noiler birds, poultry feed and medication, alongside practical training on managing the birds and operating poultry production as an enterprise.
Government officials at the event urged the beneficiaries to treat the poultry birds and other inputs as productive assets and manage their businesses sustainably.
The event was attended by the Jigawa State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Muttaka Namadi; Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hadiza Abdulwahab; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Auwalu Ado Shehu; and Oniyelu, among other stakeholders.
