On the occasion of his 74th birthday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the creation of a dedicated welfare fund to support Nigeria’s Armed Forces, honouring their service, sacrifices, and the families they leave behind.

In a personal statement, the President and Commander-in-Chief declared:

“On this my 74th birthday, I celebrate the valiant men and women of our Armed Forces.”

He directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to immediately establish a special account for the fund, which will cater to:

– Serving personnel
– Those wounded in the line of duty
– Families of fallen heroes (widows, widowers, and children)

As a personal commitment, President Tinubu revealed that all his salaries since assuming office will be paid into this account as seed funding. This is in addition to existing insurance and welfare schemes.

The fund will provide direct support to personnel who have lost limbs and to the dependents of those who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

The President called for broad national support:

“I call on our Governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, my friends and all well-wishers to support this initiative. Details of the account will be made available in due course.”

He emphasised the moral obligation behind the move:

“We must never forget those who stand in harm’s way for our peace, nor the sacrifices borne by their families. This is not charity. It is duty. And we will fulfil it.”

Further details on the special account and how to contribute are expected to be released soon by the relevant authorities.
