Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has won the Premier League Player of the Season Award on Saturday.
The Manchester United midfielder laid claim to the prize ahead of Arsenal’s David Raya, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Declan Rice; Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo; Brentford’s Igor Thiago; and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
Fernandes has equalled the record for most assists in a single Premier League campaign with 20, alongside Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Alongside the record-equaling assists, the 31-year-old has also scored eight league goals for Manchester United this season and has played a pivotal role in helping Michael Carrick’s team finish third and secure a spot for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Based on available records, Fernandes is the first Manchester United player to claim the award since Nemanja Vidic won it in the 2020-11 season.
Also, Fernandes had also been named this season’s Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year and The Athletic Player of the Season.
Meanwhile, Manchester City defender Nico O’Reilly won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
The 21-year-old scored both goals in City’s League Cup final triumph over Arsenal in March and was involved in their FA Cup final victory against Chelsea.
O’Reilly became a regular at left-back for City this season and also featured in midfield, scoring five goals and providing three assists.
The youngster won the award at the expense of his teammate Rayan Cherki; West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, Newcastle’s Lewis Hall, Brentford’s Michael Kayode, United’s Kobbie Mainoo, and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Eli Junior Kroupi were the other nominees for the Young Player award.
