The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Lagos State Governorship Election, Hon. Damilola Sonayon-James, has expressed profound appreciation to the leadership of the party, key stakeholders and the people of Lagos State following her emergence as the running mate to the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.
In a statement issued shortly after her official unveiling, Sonayon-James described her nomination as a humbling call to service and a testament to the enduring possibilities that Lagos State offers to individuals committed to excellence, dedication, and progressive ideals.
Giving glory to God for what she described as a significant milestone in her political journey, the APC deputy governorship candidate said her emergence serves as a reminder that Lagos remains a land of opportunities where hard work, commitment, and service are recognised and rewarded.
“As a woman of faith, I have no doubt that God is the architect of our lives. I am deeply grateful for His grace and benevolence, which continue to guide my steps and shape my journey,” she stated.
Sonayon-James extended special appreciation to the leadership of the APC for entrusting her with the responsibility of serving on the party’s governorship ticket. She particularly acknowledged the role of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), led by the respected elder statesman and apex leader of the council, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, commending the body for its wisdom, guidance, and unwavering commitment to preserving the progressive values of the party in Lagos State.
The APC deputy governorship candidate also conveyed her heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and enduring contributions to democratic governance in Nigeria. She noted that the President’s leadership continues to inspire a new generation of public servants and has strengthened the nation’s economic outlook through bold reforms and strategic policy interventions.
She further appreciated Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, for their support and exemplary leadership, while thanking the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, for the confidence reposed in her.
Sonayon-James also acknowledged the Lagos APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, party elders, executive members, women leaders, youth leaders and party faithful across the state, describing their encouragement and support as invaluable to her political journey.
