German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the signing of Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika from Belgian champions Club Brugge on a six-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2031.
The 25-year-old joins the Bundesliga side after four successful seasons with Club Brugge, having moved to the Belgian club from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland in 2022.
During his time at Club Brugge, Onyedika established himself as the club’s first-choice defensive midfielder, helping the team win two Belgian Pro League titles. He also gained valuable European experience, making 24 appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s board member for sport, Markus Krösche, welcomed the Nigerian to the club, describing him as a key addition to the squad.
“Raphael Onyedika has not only impressed us with his physicality and strategic understanding of the game, but above all with his extraordinary consistency. At 25, he still has great potential and is an important building block in terms of the structure of our squad,” Krösche said.
Onyedika earned his first senior call-up to Nigeria in 2022 following his impressive performances in Belgium. Since then, he has made 26 appearances for the Super Eagles and scored three goals.
The midfielder is expected to bolster Frankfurt’s midfield as the club prepares for the new season. He could make his competitive debut in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against fifth-tier side St. Tönis on August 21 before Frankfurt begin their Bundesliga campaign away to Union Berlin on August 29.
