The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwoolu performed the turning of the sod at the ground breaking launch of the Lagos Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Hub at Ketu-Ereyun, Epe, Lagos yesterday.
The Hub will be built on 1.2 million square metres of land and will have the following components – aggregation/storage facilities, administrative offices, trading/brokering facilities, packaging facilities, processing facilities, cold chain/dry goods services, logistics Services/ trailer park, water treatment plant, wealth centre, fuel station/ fire Station, abattoir and lairage
The world class Food Security hub will create wealth for more than 5 million people, feed more than 10 million Lagosians, provide food for at least 90 days and provide storage facilities for more than 1,500 trucks per day.
The hub which is the biggest in sub saharan africa would also serve as shock absorbent facility in the case of food shortage or acute crisis like lockdowns during epidemic or pandemic while also contributing to mitigating fluctuating prices of commodities during periods of increase in demand like during yuletide and seasons.
