The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been thrown into mourning following the passing of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, the beloved mother of the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

Late Mama Lydia Yilwatda

She died on Sunday morning at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, aged 83. The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, confirmed her passing in a statement issued in Jos. Family sources confirmed that Mama Lydia, a matriarch remembered for her strong values, humility and unwavering devotion to family and community, breathed her last peacefully after a fulfilled life.

Prof. Yilwatda, who only recently assumed the leadership of Nigeria’s ruling party, described the loss as a deeply personal tragedy, noting that his late mother was a pillar of strength and an enduring source of inspiration throughout his life and career.

Details of the funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course by the family.

Mama Lydia Yilwatda’s passing marks the end of an era for the Yilwatda family, but her legacy of discipline, compassion and faith will continue to resonate with those whose lives she touched.
