Armed men reportedly invaded Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State in a midnight assault, and abducted a nine-year-old boy, identified as Olaosebikan Victor.
The attack, which occurred around 1:30 a.m., was confirmed by residents Olaosebikan Isaac and Joel Owalekan, who alerted the police after the incident.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants stormed the community while firing shots indiscriminately, triggering widespread panic. They reportedly broke into the home of Isaac Olaosebikan, who escaped into a nearby bush in a bid to save his life, but unfortunately left his son behind, who was taken by the attackers.
The gunmen were also said to have attempted forced entry into the residence of Joel Owalekan, damaging parts of the building in the process. Owalekan, however, managed to escape without harm.
The Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, stated that the Divisional Police Officer, alongside operatives and members of the Amotekun Corps, promptly launched a coordinated search-and-rescue mission following the report.
He noted that security teams have been combing nearby forests and possible escape routes in efforts to rescue the victim and apprehend those responsible. He also confirmed that investigations are ongoing and some items of evidential value have been recovered from the scene.
According to him, all tactical and intelligence units have been instructed to intensify efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the child and the arrest of the perpetrators.
Abayomi further explained that the police are collaborating with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to track down the suspects and bring them to justice.
He reassured residents that the command is fully mobilised to secure the child’s safe return and urged the public to remain calm but alert.
He also appealed to anyone with useful information about the incident or the suspects to report to the nearest police station or relevant security authorities promptly.
