Following his emergence as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial election, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on Thursday evening paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to formally present the results of the party’s governorship primaries.

Dr. Hamzat was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, during the high-level visit, which took place shortly after the conclusion of the APC primaries that produced him as the party’s standard bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State.
The meeting is widely seen as a symbolic and strategic moment in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, reflecting party unity and the consolidation of support within the ruling APC in Lagos State.

Dr. Hamzat, who secured a sweeping victory across the state during the primaries, expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates and members for the confidence reposed in him to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming election.
Political observers say the visit underscores the long-standing political relationship between President Tinubu and Dr. Hamzat, who has served as Deputy Governor of Lagos State since 2019 and remains a key figure in the state’s progressive political structure.
Sources within the party disclosed that discussions during the visit centered on sustaining the developmental strides of the APC administration in Lagos State, party cohesion, and strategies ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.
The emergence of Dr. Hamzat as the APC candidate has continued to generate reactions across political circles, with supporters describing his candidacy as a continuation of experienced leadership, continuity and grassroots-driven governance in Lagos State.
