INEC issues certificates of return to Tinubu.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has handed a certificate of return to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s president-elect. The INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, presented him with the certificate at a ceremony that started around 3 pm at the National Collation Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, March 1st, 2023, alongside the vice-president-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima.

Mahmood Yakubu had pronounced Tinubu the winner of the February 25th presidential election on Wednesday early hours at the same venue as he secured 8,794,726 votes to defeat his opposition Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who finished second with 6,984,520 votes and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) who had 6,101,533 votes to become third in the contest.
