As part of efforts to position Lagos as a global creative and tourism hub, the Lagos State Government has initiated discussions with key stakeholders in San Francisco, USA, to foster strategic collaborations in entertainment, tourism, and technology-driven innovation.
A high-powered delegation from Lagos, led by the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, engaged with the Mayor of San Francisco and the leadership of Empire Africa, a prominent music and entertainment company. The discussions focused on leveraging technology to revolutionize the creative industry, enhance tourism offerings, and improve infrastructure to support growth in these sectors.
Accompanying Commissioner Benson-Awoyinka are Mr Tubosun Alake, Commissioner of Innovation, Science and Technology, as well as Mr Seun Osiyemi, Commissioner For Transportation, signifying the state’s multi-sectoral approach to integrating technology and mobility solutions into the creative and tourism ecosystem.
Speaking during the engagement, Commissioner Benson-Awoyinka reaffirmed Lagos’ standing as Africa’s leading entertainment hub and emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering a vibrant, technology-driven creative industry. She noted that by embracing digital transformation, the Lagos entertainment and tourism landscape could unlock new revenue streams, empower local talents, and attract more global investments.
The meeting also explored areas of knowledge exchange, capacity building, and investment in digital infrastructure to create a more sustainable and innovative creative sector in Lagos.
This initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda, which prioritizes entertainment, tourism, and economic development as key drivers of A Greater Lagos Rising.
With the Lagos State Government deepening international partnerships and embracing innovation, the creative and tourism industries are poised for unprecedented growth, further cementing Lagos as a global cultural powerhouse.
