The ruling All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has officially unveiled Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as its governorship candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election following a landslide victory at the party’s primary election.

Dr. Hamzat secured a massive 657,974 votes recorded across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), reaffirming the dominance of the APC and the confidence of party members in his leadership capacity.

The outcome of the exercise sparked widespread celebration among party faithful and supporters, who described the result as a clear mandate for continuity, progress, and sustained development in Lagos State.

Party leaders and stakeholders hailed Hamzat’s emergence as a reflection of his years of dedication to public service, governance and grassroots political engagement. Many noted that his experience as Deputy Governor and technocrat positioned him as a capable successor to continue the developmental strides of the APC administration in the state.

Speaking after the declaration of results, supporters and stakeholders  praised the overwhelming endorsement received by the APC candidate, insisting that Lagosians had once again demonstrated their commitment to progressive governance.

Political observers also described the primary election as a significant moment in the political landscape of Lagos State, as the APC prepares to retain its stronghold ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Celebrations erupted across several parts of the state shortly after the announcement, with supporters chanting solidarity songs and expressing optimism that Hamzat’s candidacy would usher in another phase of infrastructural growth, economic expansion and people-oriented governance in Lagos.
