In response to severe traffic congestion experienced across Lagos on Tuesday, the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has ordered the immediate reopening of the Independence Bridge on Victoria Island.

Honourable Minister For Works, Dave Umahi

The bridge, which had been temporarily closed for maintenance, is a key route connecting major business districts and residential areas in Lagos. Its closure earlier in the day led to unprecedented gridlock, causing disruptions to commuters, businesses, and essential services.

Following public outcry and reports of worsening traffic conditions, Minister Umahi issued a directive for the immediate reopening of the bridge to restore normal traffic flow. The decision is expected to provide much-needed relief to motorists and residents who were stranded for hours.

Speaking on the development, a spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Works assured the public that while critical infrastructure upgrades remain a priority, measures will be taken to ensure that road users experience minimal disruption.

Authorities have also urged motorists to cooperate with traffic management officials as efforts continue to address Lagos’ congestion challenges.
