In a significant demonstration of commitment to grassroots sports development, the President of the Nigeria Catchball Federation (NCF), Engr. Bola Babarinde, on Sunday, May 31, 2026, presented cash support and sports training kits to the Board members of Mushin Catchball Club during a brief but impactful ceremony.
The items were received on behalf of the club by the Chairman of Mushin Catchball Club, Mrs. Valentine Kaosara Bello, alongside Board Member, Mr. Mutiu Faro, who expressed gratitude to the federation for the timely intervention and unwavering support towards the growth of the sport at the grassroots level.
Speaking during the presentation, Engr. Babarinde commended the leadership and members of Mushin Catchball Club for their dedication, passion and consistency in promoting Catchball despite limited resources.
He noted that the federation was particularly impressed by the club’s seriousness, commitment and visible efforts in nurturing talent and expanding participation in the sport.
According to him, while sports clubs are encouraged to explore innovative ways of generating funds and attracting sponsorships to sustain their activities, the federation deemed it necessary to support Mushin Catchball Club because of its outstanding commitment to the development of Catchball in the community.
“The management of the Nigeria Catchball Federation recognizes the passion and seriousness demonstrated by Mushin Catchball Club. This informed our decision to provide training kits and financial support to further strengthen their activities and encourage their continued contribution to the development of the sport,” he stated.
Engr. Babarinde also used the occasion to educate the club’s board members on the importance of financial sustainability, urging them to actively seek partnerships, sponsorships, and other funding opportunities that would enable them to complement the federation’s efforts and ensure long-term growth.
He further emphasized that the Nigeria Catchball Federation remains committed to expanding the sport across the country but requires the support of government agencies, corporate organizations, development partners, and sports enthusiasts to achieve its objectives.
The federation called on public and private sector stakeholders to partner with it in promoting youth engagement, talent discovery, healthy living, and community development through Catchball.
