The Oyo State Government has expressed concern over the abduction of some corps members of Oyo State origin in Imo, describing the incident as distressing and reprehensible.
The state Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, made this known in a statement issued in Ibadan on Friday.
The government condemned the abduction, saying its thoughts were with the affected corps members and their families.
According to the statement, the state government is in close communication with relevant security agencies, the Imo State Government and the leadership of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to ensure a coordinated and urgent response.
“We are fully committed to securing the safe release of our children and will stop at nothing to ensure that they are reunited with their families without harm,” the statement said.
It added that Gov. Seyi Makinde had directed that all necessary resources be deployed to secure the release of the abducted corps members.
The statement said the governor had emphasised that the safety and well-being of every indigene of the state, both within and outside its borders, remained a top priority.
The government urged the families of the abducted corps members to remain calm, assuring them that efforts were ongoing on all fronts to secure their release.
It also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
