The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has announced a crackdown on tricycle operators who fail to obtain the necessary hackney permits and revenue tickets required to operate within the state.

This initiative was detailed by OYRTMA Chairman, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd), during a press briefing in Ibadan. Major Adekoya highlighted that tricycle riders who deface their windscreens with unauthorized stickers will also face strict enforcement measures. He emphasized that these defaced windscreens contribute to road accidents, thus posing a significant risk to road safety.

“Ensuring the safety of lives and property is a shared responsibility among all stakeholders and road users,” Major Adekoya stated.

To address these issues, Major Adekoya has directed all OYRTMA commanders to begin a special enforcement operation, “Operation Stop and Remove Stickers on Tricycle Windscreens,” starting Monday, May 20.

In addition to this directive, the Chairman called for the immediate removal of roadside automobile mechanics operating around Aliwo Road and the setback of the water reservoir at Agodi Gate, Ibadan. He condemned these activities as safety hazards and environmental infractions.

Major Adekoya insists that these mechanics must cease their activities and vacate the premises without delay.
