Pay Our Entitlements, Osun Pensioners Urge Aregbesola

A protest has been staged by pensioners in Osun state over the non-payment of their entitlements by Governor Rauf Aregbesola. The pensioners are alleging that the governor is yet to make moves to pay them despite receiving the state government’s receipt of inflow from the Paris Club loan refund.

According to the pensioners the long overdue entitlements have led to the deaths of many of them as they have waited in vain for the receipt of their pensions without having anything to take care of their health or welfare.

The pensioners have adopted a new mode to their protest through the adoption of open prayers within the surrounding environs of the state secretariat.

One of those in the fore-front of the protest, Alhaji Yemi Lawal said, “We decided to take our case to Aregbesola’s Creator in prayer because the suffering is much. We fixed today for these special prayers without knowing that Aregbesola’s mother’s fidau would also hold today. We didn’t know that the woman would die on Monday.

“The fund he collected before the second tranche of Paris Club loan refund was enough to settle our pension arrears and gratuities”.

It must be recalled that the Federal Government made a disbursement of about N243.8 billion naira to all the 36 states and Abuja as refunds from the Paris Club loan refund.

Osun state received a total of N6,314,106,340.62 from this sum.
