Peter Obi Officially Dumps ADC

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the party’s internal crisis as a causal factor.

Obi revealed the news earlier today in a statement that was shared on his verified X feed.

Obi claimed in his post that some Nigerian state operatives who had infiltrated the Labour Party and caused needless strife and animosity among its members, forcing him to resign, now seem to be making their way into the ADC.

The former governor of Anambra asserted that the agents arrived with countless court cases, internal conflicts, mistrust, and division and that they concentrated on playing politics based more on control and exclusion than on addressing more fundamental national issues of service and nation-building.

The former presidential candidate emphasised that he had never used privilege, position, or wealth to oppress others, intimidate the weak, or make them feel small. He also said that he had never looked down on anyone other than to raise them.

Obi reiterated that leadership has always been about service, sacrifice, and helping others rise. “Let me be clear: I did not leave the ADC because I was mistreated by our esteemed chairman, Senator David Mark, or because I was personally harmed by my leader and older brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other esteemed leaders.

“I will still hold them in high regard. However, rather than focusing on significant national issues and participating in politics that prioritise control and exclusion over service and nation-building, the same Nigerian state and its operatives that created unnecessary crises and animosity within the Labour Party—prompting my departure—now appear to be infiltrating the ADC through endless court cases, internal conflicts, mistrust, and division.

“I want to reassure everyone that I have no desire to be president, vice president, or Senate president. I fervently hope that Nigerians will live in their homes rather than in IDP camps. I long for a nation where Nigerians do not go to bed hungry or unsure of where they will get their next meal. But I’m still determined in spite of everything.”

“After my church service this morning, I woke up with a very contemplative heart, and in spite of all the obstacles, I felt driven to share these ideas with you. Many people don’t fully comprehend the silent suffering that some of us endure on a daily basis—the emotional burdens, inner challenges, and secret conflicts we encounter while attempting to survive and serve sincerely amid tough circumstances.”

He added, “We now live in an increasingly toxic environment, where the very system that should protect and create opportunities for decent living often works against the people—a society where intimidation, insecurity, endless scrutiny, and discouragement have become normal.”
