Philips Shaibu, the recently reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, revealed on Friday that he has already been unofficially aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Arise TV’s morning show, Shaibu disclosed that his formal departure from the ruling party in Edo has been delayed due to his yet-to-be-officially severed ties with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During the interview, Shaibu explained his newfound support for the APC governorship candidate in Edo, attributing it to his current disaffection with the PDP. “In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party,” Shaibu remarked.
Shaibu’s statements come amid rising political tension in Edo State, highlighting a significant shift in his political allegiance. His public endorsement of the APC candidate underscores a broader trend of political realignments ahead of the upcoming elections. The deputy governor’s comments have sparked conversations about the future of political loyalty and party dynamics within the state.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Shaibu’s move may influence other key political figures and supporters, potentially reshaping the balance of power in Edo State. The implications of his unofficial switch to the APC will be closely watched by political analysts and stakeholders as the state prepares for its next electoral contest.
