The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer allegedly supplying illicit substances to armed bandits operating in Funtua Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Katsina.
He said the suspect, popularly known as “Dunbuje,” was arrested at about 5:00 p.m. on July 15 by operatives attached to the Central Police Station in Funtua following credible intelligence.
According to the police spokesperson, officers trailed the suspect before arresting him, and a subsequent search led to the recovery of 500 tablets of the illicit drug known as D5.
Sadiq-Aliyu said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly specialised in supplying the drugs to suspected armed bandits and other criminal elements operating in Funtua and neighbouring communities, thereby facilitating their criminal activities.
He added that the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue to identify his source of supply, uncover his distribution network and arrest other accomplices.
The police spokesman said the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Sadiq-Aliyu also stated that the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar-Fage, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response.
He said the commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks by disrupting their logistics and drug supply chains.
The police command also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.
