The Presidency has described President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil as a “smart and strategic move” designed to diversify and strengthen Nigeria’s economy through deeper global partnerships.
According to the Presidency, the visit holds the potential to be a game changer in fostering stronger ties with Latin America’s largest economy and a key member of BRICS.
Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, made this known during an interview with journalists in Brasília. President Tinubu is scheduled to arrive in Brazil on Monday for a two-day state visit at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Dare explained that the visit is expected to accelerate Nigeria’s economic growth through targeted engagements in key sectors.
“Yes, this is President Tinubu’s third visit to Brazil, and it is with a justifiable purpose,” Dare said.
“It reflects a renewed and focused effort to build lasting economic integration between our countries. This journey began 21 years ago under President Olusegun Obasanjo and has now gained fresh momentum under President Tinubu.”
He highlighted the strong demographic, economic, and cultural similarities between Nigeria and Brazil, noting that the visit comes at a crucial time. Brazil’s global leadership in mechanized agriculture, agribusiness, and renewable energy, he added, makes it an ideal partner for Nigeria.
“Brazil has a cattle herd of 238 million—larger than its human population,” Dare said. “Its agribusiness success offers valuable lessons for Nigeria as we expand our livestock industry.”
While earlier visits were largely tied to international summits such as the G20 and BRICS, Dare stressed that this state visit “marks a shift toward concrete bilateral agreements.”
“This visit takes Nigeria from being a dialogue partner to actively negotiating deals that will unlock investments and strengthen cooperation. It is about transforming historic and cultural ties into practical, mutually beneficial investments that will boost Nigeria’s growth and global standing.”
The Presidency further stated that the visit will open opportunities for collaboration in aviation, livestock development, trade, and other strategic sectors, positioning Nigeria more firmly within the global economic network.
