The Anambra State Government has once again sealed several shops in markets across Onitsha and surrounding communities after traders failed to open for business on Monday in defiance of the state’s directive.
Many of the affected shops were located in the Building Materials Market in Ogidi, where traders reportedly stayed away despite clear instructions from the government to resume normal commercial activities. The enforcement action reflects the administration’s firm stance on restoring economic stability and ending the culture of forced compliance with the Monday sit at home.
In contrast, the government commended traders at the Electrical Parts Dealers Market in Obosi for complying fully with the directive and conducting their businesses as expected. Their cooperation was praised as a demonstration of civic responsibility and support for the state’s efforts to protect livelihoods and normalize economic activity under the leadership of Charles Soludo.
