The Renewed Hope Global Town Hall Virtual Conference has once again achieved a major milestone, hosting another successful virtual conference with a special guest from the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The conference, which was attended by several VVIPs, featured Mr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), as the special guest.
Key Highlights of the Conference
Mr. Aliyu’s presentation focused on the REA’s initiatives to provide electricity to rural areas in Nigeria. He highlighted the following key initiatives:
Establishment of Assembly Plants are underway to be established in Abuja and Lagos.
Amount to the tune of $3 billion is being invested in electrification projects that will create job opportunities for youths in the sector.
Intervention in Agricultural Hubs: 23 agricultural hubs are being established across the country to provide infrastructure for cultivation and food production.
Support for Solar in Home Systems: 1.5 million Solar Home Systems have been deployed across rural areas, adding 3 megawatts to the National Grid.
Investment in Mini-Grid Projects: The REA has commissioned mini-grid projects in several states, including Plateau, Cross River, and Niger.
Collaboration and Partnerships:
The conference also highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnerships in achieving the REA’s goals. Mr. Aliyu commended the support of the President, Vice-President, and his Minister, Hon. Adebayo Adelabu, in accomplishing the REA’s mandate.
Future Plans
The REA has plans to commission 19 and 21 mini-grids with over 2 megawatts capacity in a day simultaneously in Plateau and Nasarawa States, respectively.
