Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered rocket-propelled grenade launchers, explosives and other equipment during a military operation in Kebbi State.
The operation was conducted on Sunday around Dogon Daji in Dandi Local Government Area by troops of the 8 Division under Sector 2, according to an operational report released on Monday.
Military authorities said the troops encountered the terrorists during an offensive operation and engaged them in a gun battle. The suspects were forced to retreat after being overwhelmed by the troops’ firepower.
The soldiers subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists and carried out follow-up clearance operations in the area.
Items recovered included RPG launch tubes, rocket-propelled grenades, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two motorcycles, a charger and other items believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
No casualty was recorded among the troops during the operation.
The military said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating across the North-West, adding that troops remain on the offensive to disrupt criminal activities and logistics routes in the region.
It added that further operations are underway to track down the fleeing terrorists and consolidate gains recorded during the mission. (NAN)
