Health authorities have identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region, with both individuals isolated as investigations and laboratory tests continue.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), in an update on the disease situation, said samples collected from the individuals were undergoing laboratory testing to determine whether they had contracted the virus.
The agency disclosed that contact identification and listing were also ongoing as part of efforts to monitor possible exposure and prevent further transmission.
However, the NCDC clarified that the classification of the individuals as suspected cases did not mean they had tested positive for Ebola, stressing that confirmation would depend on the outcome of laboratory tests.
The agency urged members of the public to maintain proper hand hygiene, observe improved sanitation practices and adhere to preventive measures issued by public health authorities.
It added that further updates would be provided as verified information becomes available.
