An Akwa Ibom woman has been left distraught after the lawyer who handled her divorce proceedings allegedly married her ex-husband just two weeks after finalizing the divorce case.

According to Ojong Agbor, who shared the shocking incident on social media, the unidentified woman from Uyo had hired a lawyer to facilitate her divorce, only for the legal professional to turn around and tie the knot with her former spouse in quick succession.

“The lawyer who helped me handle my divorce case has married my ex-husband two weeks after the court process. Uyo lady cries out,” Ojong wrote.

The development has sparked outrage among many Nigerians online, who condemned the lawyer’s purported actions as unethical and a breach of professional conduct.

“They have said it before, go to court premises on daily basis you can find your husband or wife there. A lot are fighting to enter, a lot are also fighting to come out. Who will save us now?” one commentator, Genevieve Ojong Ijoko, lamented.

Others like Elizabeth Akakar highlighted the incident as an example of how women can sometimes be their own worst enemies, stating: “A woman is another woman’s enemy…women be wise.”

While the full details remain unclear, the alleged actions of the lawyer have been widely criticized, with calls for the relevant legal bodies to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary measures if the allegations are proven true.

The incident has also reignited discussions around legal ethics, conflict of interest, and the need for lawyers to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity when dealing with clients, especially in sensitive domestic matters.
