In a bid to foster increased diaspora participation in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, the Nigerian and Canadian Business Network (NCBN) in collaboration with Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and Kampe Health Plans is set to host a Special Diaspora Business Town Hall Meeting focused on “Investing in Nigeria’s Agricultural Sector.”

The virtual event, scheduled for Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, at 3:00 PM EST (9:00 PM Nigeria Time), will feature a keynote address by Senator Abubakar Kyari, Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

Nigeria’s agricultural sector remains a cornerstone of the national economy, offering vast investment opportunities across various value chains. With over 70% of the population engaged in farming activities, agriculture provides a sustainable pathway for economic growth, food security, and job creation.

This strategic town hall meeting will provide diaspora investors, agribusiness stakeholders, and policymakers with key insights into:

Government incentives and support mechanisms available for agricultural investments.

Financial assistance programs designed to ease market entry and expansion.

Infrastructure development and land access policies to facilitate agribusiness growth.

Innovative agricultural practices that enhance productivity and sustainability.

Opportunities for public-private partnerships in the sector.

The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has prioritized agriculture as a catalyst for economic diversification and job creation. Minister Kyari is expected to outline various initiatives aimed at enhancing local and international investment in food production, agribusiness, and agro-processing.

His address will emphasize the link between agricultural development and national food security, underscoring the need for diaspora-driven investments to bridge gaps in supply chains, improve food quality, and reduce dependency on imports.

With millions of Nigerians residing abroad, the diaspora community represents a powerful force for economic transformation. This town hall will highlight the role of diaspora remittances, technological expertise, and business networks in strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural ecosystem.

Beyond financial gains, investing in agriculture fosters national development, enhances food availability, and improves public health. Agricultural investments contribute directly to addressing malnutrition, reducing food insecurity, and mitigating the prevalence of non-communicable diseases.

The Special Diaspora Business Town Hall Meeting presents a rare opportunity for investors, entrepreneurs, and agricultural stakeholders to engage directly with key policymakers and industry experts. Attendees will gain first-hand knowledge of how they can leverage government policies and available resources to make impactful investments in the sector.

Interested participants are encouraged to register and attend this landmark event, as their engagement could shape the future of Nigeria’s agricultural transformation.
