In an era where citizens increasingly demand visible leadership and meaningful engagement, Dr Abiodun Essiet is emerging as one of the most influential voices shaping public participation in Nigeria’s North Central region. Her recent recognition as Senior Special Assistant of the Year (Public Engagement & Delivery) at the 2026 edition of the 100 Most Influential Progressives Award, organised by The Progressives Magazine, has further cemented her growing reputation as a bridge between government policy and grassroots realities.
As Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Community Engagement for the North Central zone, Dr Essiet has distinguished herself in her approach to governance by ensuring accessibility, inclusion and community-driven solutions. Ever since taking office, she has been advocating for peacebuilding, citizen engagement and good service delivery in the region.
Her nomination for the prestigious award ceremony is considered a sign of her effort and the tangible results of her efforts to build trust in the public and improve communication between the presidency and local communities. Political and civic commentators label her as a hands-on, responsive and people-oriented leader.
The promotion has also come at a time when young, able and efficient hands are being identified and groomed to lead the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, as part of the Tinubu government’s new paradigm.
Beyond her official responsibilities, Dr Essiet continues to expand her influence through strategic engagement platforms designed to connect Nigerians at home and abroad with government activities. She is also slated to make a prominent appearance at the Renewed Hope Global Virtual Conference in the coming weeks, an international policy and engagement forum organised by the President Tinubu’s administration’s diaspora supporters.
The weekly conference has now become a robust global network with active South African, U.K., U.S. and Canadian chapters. Ministers, heads of government agencies, directors-general, and presidential advisers frequently update and brief on policy implementation, institutional reforms, and developmental achievements of the current administration on the platform.
The conference has emerged as a political forum for many in the diaspora not only to discuss Nigeria’s political and social issues, but also to exchange ideas and engage in joint advocacy and policy discussions around Nigeria’s development agenda. Dr Essiet’s visit will be expected to provide a greater understanding of current interventions, stakeholder engagement approaches, and development outcomes in the North Central region.
Dr Abiodun Essiet’s rising visibility and engagement signal a leadership model that transcends the traditional role of a politician, emphasising action, presence, and impact within the community.
