The Federal Government has announced that the fourth evacuation flight conveying stranded Nigerians from South Africa is scheduled to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
According to the ministry, the Air Peace-operated flight is carrying 284 passengers, comprising 272 adults and 12 infants. The statement also noted that two government officials are on board the flight, making the total number of people expected to arrive 286.
The ministry said the flight forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing evacuation exercise for Nigerians who opted to return home following the recent wave of xenophobic attacks and other security concerns in South Africa.
The latest operation marks the fourth evacuation flight organised under the government’s repatriation programme for affected Nigerians.
