The All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified preparations for the forthcoming 2026 Ekiti State governorship election with the inauguration of its National Campaign Council, a strategic move aimed at consolidating support and ensuring electoral victory for the party in the June 20 governorship contest.
In a statement released on Monday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party announced that the inauguration ceremony would take place on Wednesday at the Kashim Shettima Hall of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The party disclosed that the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has been appointed Chairman of the National Campaign Council, while the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, will serve as Co-Chairman. The Senate Majority Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, was named Secretary of the council.

According to the APC, the campaign council comprises an array of influential party figures, including serving and former governors, principal officers of the National Assembly and other senior stakeholders within the party.
The council is expected to spearhead campaign activities, coordinate political engagements, and galvanise support across the length and breadth of Ekiti State ahead of the election.

As part of a comprehensive strategy designed to strengthen the party’s electoral machinery, the APC also announced the establishment of several specialised subcommittees. These committees will oversee critical areas such as election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots mobilisation, logistics, media and publicity, security coordination, women and youth engagement, protocol arrangements and secretariat operations.

Party leaders noted that the inauguration of the campaign council signals the commencement of an intensive statewide mobilisation effort aimed at securing another electoral triumph for the APC in Ekiti. The council is expected to work closely with party structures at the state, local government and ward levels to deepen voter engagement and strengthen the party’s presence across communities.
The Ekiti governorship election is already attracting considerable national attention as political parties intensify campaigns and strategic consultations ahead of the poll. For the APC, the contest presents an opportunity to retain its hold on the state through the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who emerged as the party’s consensus candidate in October 2025.
Political observers believe the composition of the National Campaign Council reflects the party’s determination to deploy its experienced political leaders and institutional resources in pursuit of victory, as the race for the Ekiti State Government House gathers momentum ahead of the June 20, 2026 election.
