The Nigerian Army has neutralised a suspected terrorist, rescued three kidnapped victims, and destroyed a bandits’ camp during a military operation in Zamfara State.
According to an operational report released on Saturday in Abuja, troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, carried out the operation on June 12 in communities within Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry and other criminal activities in the North-West.
The report stated that troops conducting a fighting patrol through Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa communities made contact with armed terrorists operating in Yanbuki District of Zurmi Local Government Area.
During the ensuing firefight, the troops neutralised one terrorist, while several others fled the area.
Items recovered from the scene included rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a pair of woodland camouflage trousers, and an inner vest.
The report added that the troops sustained pressure on the fleeing criminals and advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, forcing the terrorists to abandon their camp and flee upon sighting the advancing forces.
Military personnel subsequently cleared the area and destroyed the camp to prevent it from being used for future criminal operations.
During the clearance exercise, troops also rescued three kidnapped victims, who were safely evacuated from the area.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region until terrorist and bandit groups are completely dismantled and lasting peace is restored to affected communities.
