The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has passed away, marking the end of an era in one of Nigeria’s most revered traditional institutions.

Sources close to the royal family confirmed that the highly respected monarch joined his ancestors at 91 years of age after decades of dedicated service to the Ijebu people and the nation at large. His passing has thrown the entire Ijebuland and the traditional institution into mourning.

Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning monarchs. He was widely known for his wisdom, courage, and unwavering commitment to the cultural preservation and socio-economic advancement of Ijebuland.

Funeral arrangements and official announcements are expected to be released by the palace in due course.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
