There was heightened political tension today as top leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were reportedly denied access to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at the headquarters of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Among those said to have been prevented from meeting with El-Rufai were the ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola; the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi; and the Secretary of the ADC Manifesto and Policy Committee, Salihu Lukman.
Sources within the party disclosed that the delegation arrived at the ICPC facility in a bid to see and show solidarity with El-Rufai, but security officials reportedly refused them entry, citing undisclosed administrative and procedural reasons.
The development has sparked widespread reactions within political circles, with supporters of the former Kaduna governor describing the move as “unnecessary” and “politically sensitive,” especially amid ongoing realignments and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although details surrounding El-Rufai’s presence at the anti-graft agency remain unclear at the time of filing this report, the incident has further fueled speculation over the growing political undercurrents involving key opposition figures and emerging coalition movements in the country.
Neither the ICPC nor representatives of El-Rufai had issued an official statement regarding the incident as of press time.
