Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the announcement of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. The sad news was confirmed this afternoon by presidential aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, on behalf of the family.

According to the statement, the former President died at a private clinic in London, where he had been receiving medical attention.

“May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the family prayed in the official announcement.

President Buhari, a retired Major General and two-time leader of Nigeria, served as a military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.

Further details on burial arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
