A Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has revoked the bail granted to the former minister of power, Saleh Mamman, and issued a bench warrant for his arrest due to his absence in court during ongoing proceedings in an alleged N31 billion fraud case.
A statement about the development was published on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) official website earlier today, May 11, 2026.
As revealed in the statement, Mamman’s bail was revoked by Justice Maryann Anenih on Monday after he failed to show up for his trial on a nine-count allegation of collecting N31,070,541,349.64 through false pretence and intent to defraud.
According to the anti-graft agency, Mamman hasn’t been seen in public since May 7, 2026, when Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja found him guilty on a different 12-count charge involving alleged N33.8 billion money laundering.
Prosecution attorney Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court during the proceedings that Justice Omotosho had not given a cause for the former minister’s absence during his conviction.
However, Mamman’s attorney, Femi Atteh, contended that since the defendant had already been convicted and had a warrant issued against him, it was the prosecution’s duty to produce him.
Oyedepo maintained that the prosecution had no need to provide an explanation for the defendant’s whereabouts.
“A defendant absented from trial without a good explanation. The Federal High Court issued a warrant, but it hasn’t been carried out yet because the defendant is still at large, Oyedepo informed the court.
In addition, he asked the court to revoke Mamman’s release, issue a bench warrant for his arrest, and call his surety on the following postponed date.
In accordance with Section 352 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, Justice Anenih granted the prosecution’s petitions, revoked the bail, and mandated that the trial proceed without the defendant.
The matter was adjourned till May 14, 2026, for continuation of trial.
