The Defence Headquarters has officially confirmed that the terrorist neutralized during a recent joint military operation conducted by Nigerian and United States forces was notorious ISIS commander, Abu-Bial Al-Minuki.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Micheal Onoja, disclosed the development while briefing journalists, describing the operation as a significant victory in the ongoing counter-terrorism war against extremist elements threatening Nigeria’s national security.
According to military authorities, the coordinated operation involved intelligence sharing and strategic collaboration between Nigerian security forces and U.S. military partners, leading to the successful elimination of the high-profile terrorist commander believed to have masterminded several insurgent activities across parts of the country.
The development was also acknowledged by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated that American and Nigerian forces jointly carried out the mission that resulted in the death of the senior ISIS figure in Nigeria.
Security analysts have described the operation as a major setback for ISIS-linked networks operating within the Lake Chad region and parts of northern Nigeria. Military officials further emphasized that the success of the operation demonstrates the growing effectiveness of international cooperation in combating terrorism and restoring peace in affected communities.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to sustaining aggressive offensives against terrorist groups, bandits, and other criminal elements until lasting peace and security are fully achieved across the nation.
