The Federal Government announced on Thursday that it has started the building of the 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal road.

The information was revealed by David Umahi, the Minister of Works, in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Orji Uchenna, in Abuja.

This update is being shared one week following the approval by the Federal Executive Council of a contract valued at N1.067 trillion for the initial stage of the highway’s development.

Addressing journalists following the council meeting, the Minister of Works provided details about the 47.47km dual carriageway, highlighting that it features five lanes on each side and a train track running through the center.

Umahi clarified that this road segment is part of a larger 700km network that will stretch across nine states, inclusive of two branches leading to the north. It was emphasized that the construction of this infrastructure will be carried out using concrete materials.
