The Lagos State Government has successfully concluded its 2026 Hajj operation with the safe return of all 1,600 pilgrims who participated in this year’s pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, marking what stakeholders have described as one of the most organized and well-coordinated Hajj exercises in the state’s history.

At the center of the remarkable achievement was the Honourable Commissioner for Home Affairs and Amir-ul-Hajj 2026, Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, whose leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on supervision earned widespread commendation from pilgrims, government officials and stakeholders alike.

The successful completion of the spiritual exercise culminated in the arrival of the final batch of Lagos pilgrims, led by the Commissioner himself, bringing to a close weeks of meticulous planning, coordination and welfare management across multiple locations in Saudi Arabia, including Makkah, Mina, Arafat and Jeddah.
Describing the operation as a testament to purposeful leadership and effective governance, stakeholders noted that the 2026 Hajj exercise recorded no cases of abandonment among pilgrims, while welfare, accommodation, transportation, healthcare and spiritual guidance were efficiently managed throughout the pilgrimage period.
In a statement issued at the conclusion of the exercise, the Office of the Commissioner for Home Affairs expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting the state a hitch-free operation and ensuring the safe return of all pilgrims.
The statement also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda was credited with creating an enabling environment for smooth religious and international travel operations.
Special appreciation was equally extended to Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for providing the necessary approvals, logistical backing and welfare support that contributed significantly to the success of the pilgrimage.
According to stakeholders, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of Lagos residents once again demonstrated the administration’s dedication to delivering quality service and support to citizens at home and abroad.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, was also commended for his support, prayers and continuous oversight throughout the Hajj exercise.
However, much of the praise centered on Commissioner Layode’s exceptional leadership during the pilgrimage. Pilgrims described him as a compassionate and accessible leader who remained actively involved in monitoring their welfare from departure to return.
A pilgrim, Alhaji Kamaldeen Abdulsalam noted that Hon. Layode’s presence across the various pilgrimage locations provided reassurance to pilgrims and ensured prompt responses to challenges whenever they arose.

Alhaji Kamaldeen, who is the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Ifelodun LCDA, Hon Olufemi Okeowo said that the coordination of logistics and welfare arrangements was widely regarded as instrumental in achieving a seamless operation.
Also receiving commendation was the Special Adviser on Islamic Affairs, Hon. Jebe, whose role in providing spiritual guidance and maintaining effective liaison between stakeholders contributed to the overall success of the exercise.

The Secretary and members of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board were equally applauded for their professionalism, dedication and tireless efforts in managing logistics and operational details. Their commitment, stakeholders said, helped set a new benchmark for Hajj administration in Nigeria.

With all 1,600 pilgrims returning safely and in good health, the 2026 Hajj operation has been celebrated as a shining example of what can be achieved through effective planning, teamwork and people-centered leadership.

For many participants and observers, the exercise reinforced Lagos State’s reputation as a model for excellence in public service delivery, with the state once again demonstrating its capacity to organize large-scale religious operations efficiently and successfully.

As the curtains fall on Hajj 2026, pilgrims have returned home with cherished spiritual experiences, while state officials and stakeholders continue to receive accolades for delivering a pilgrimage exercise widely regarded as one of the most successful in recent years.
