The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket, for a single four-year term, to the southern region of Nigeria after delegates at the convention approved the motion.
Afam Victor Ogene, the member of the House of Representatives for the Ogbaru Constituency of Anambra State, raised the proposal during the party’s National Convention, which was approved before the decision was made.
It was also decided that the North would automatically receive the presidential ticket after the four-year tenure was over.
The resolution has made it possible for former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and other contenders from the South to buy the party’s presidential nomination form before the primaries.
It is expected that Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State who just joined the NDC, will represent the party in the 2027 presidential contest.
