
As the 2026 World Cup draws near, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has revealed that Super Eagles legend Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha holds the record for the most successful dribbles in a single World Cup game.
According to FIFA records, Okocha made 15 successful dribbles against Italy at the 15th edition of the World Cup held in the United States of America, 1994.
Following Okocha are Jairzinho of Brazil (13 against Uruguay in 1970), Paul Gascoigne of England (13 against Cameroon in 1990), Eusebio of Portugal (12 against Hungary in 1966), Reinhard Libuda of West Germany (12 against Bulgaria in 1970), and Johan Cruyff of the Netherlands (12 against Sweden in 1974).
Additionally, there is Germany’s Jamal Musiala (12 v Costa Rica in 2022), Argentina’s Diego Maradona (12 v England in 1986), and Italy’s Sandro Mazzola (12 v Poland in 1974).
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has accomplished the most take-ons. In the history of the World Cup (125), while fellow Argentine Maradona has completed the most in a single tournament (53 at Mexico, 1986).
