In a historic cultural development, the Ooni of Ife, Arole Oodua Olofin Adimula, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, is set to install the President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, as the Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source.

The installation ceremony is scheduled to take place on Monday, 15 December, at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, the cradle of Yoruba civilization. The revered monarch is expected to confer the prestigious traditional title in recognition of Mahama’s longstanding ties to Yorubaland, his contributions to African unity, and his exemplary leadership across the continent.

This honour further deepens Mahama’s personal connection with Nigeria. He was previously conferred with the traditional title of Aare Atọlaṣe by the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Muhammed Gbadamosi Ajagungbade in Offa, Kwara State, with the where he lived briefly during his childhood. The upcoming installation in Ile-Ife underscores the historical and cultural bonds between Nigeria and Ghana, and celebrates Mahama as a bridge-builder in African diplomacy.

Dignitaries from across Nigeria, Ghana, and the wider African diaspora are expected to attend the ceremony.
