The National Democratic Coalition (NDC) has formally affirmed former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its Presidential Flag Bearer for the 2027 general elections following a unanimous resolution adopted at the party’s Special National Convention.

The convention, attended by party leaders, delegates, stakeholders and supporters from across the country, marked a significant milestone in the NDC’s preparations for the next presidential election. Delegates overwhelmingly endorsed Obi’s candidature through a motion and resolution that received unanimous approval, reflecting the party’s confidence in his leadership and vision for Nigeria.

Speaking during the event, party leaders led by Sen. Seriake Dickson described Obi’s emergence as a testament to the trust, hope and confidence that members of the party and millions of Nigerians have placed in the NDC as a platform for national transformation and good governance.

A major highlight of the convention was the official presentation of the party’s flag to the presidential candidate, symbolizing the party’s collective mandate and support for his bid to lead the country in 2027.

In his acceptance speech, Peter Obi expressed appreciation to party members and delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to champion policies that would promote economic growth, national unity, security and inclusive development.

The atmosphere at the convention became even more electrifying when Obi announced former Kano State Governor and respected political leader, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

The announcement was greeted with enthusiastic applause from delegates and party faithful, many of whom described the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as a powerful blend of experience, competence and national appeal.

Party members noted that the partnership represents a strong commitment to unity, inclusiveness and the collective aspiration to build a more prosperous and stable Nigeria.

NDC leaders congratulated both Obi and Kwankwaso on their emergence, assuring them of the unwavering support of the party’s leadership, members and stakeholders nationwide as preparations begin for what is expected to be a highly competitive presidential race.

The convention also witnessed commendations for delegates, party officials and members for conducting themselves peacefully and democratically throughout the primary election process and convention proceedings. Party leaders emphasized the need for continued unity, discipline, and dedication to the founding principles of the NDC.

As the convention drew to a close, party stakeholders reiterated their determination to provide Nigerians with what they described as a credible alternative leadership option capable of addressing the nation’s challenges and restoring hope to citizens.

With the emergence of Peter Obi as presidential candidate and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate, the NDC has officially launched its quest to secure victory in the 2027 general elections and usher in what party leaders termed a new era of progress, prosperity, and national renewal for Nigeria.
