The appointment of Bishop Kukah, known for his unwavering commitment to social justice and educational advancement, underscores the Tinubu administration’s dedication to strengthening leadership within Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

In addition to Bishop Kukah’s appointment, President Tinubu has also named other principal officers to steer the university towards academic excellence. Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor, bringing his vast academic and administrative experience to the institution. Sanusi Gambo Adamu will serve as the Registrar, while Ibrahim Dalhat takes on the role of Bursar, overseeing the university’s financial management. Prof. Daniel Abubakar has been appointed as the University Librarian, responsible for enhancing the institution’s research and academic resources.

Furthermore, the President has approved the appointment of distinguished members to the Governing Council, representing various geopolitical zones of the country. These include Mr. Thomas Etuh from the North Central, Chief Fabian Nwaora from the South East, Prof. Femi Taiwo from the South West, and Zarah Bukar from the North East. Their appointments are aimed at fostering inclusive governance and ensuring that the university’s development reflects Nigeria’s diverse perspectives.

Speaking on the appointments, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of leveraging the collective expertise and leadership acumen of the new appointees to position the university as a hub of academic excellence and innovation. He charged them to uphold the principles of visionary leadership and to establish a solid foundation for the institution’s growth as it prepares to admit its first cohort of students in September 2025.

The President reaffirmed that the appointments align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to revitalize the education sector and promote inclusive, quality learning opportunities across the nation.

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as Nok University, Kachia, was renamed following the federal government’s acquisition of its assets. The institution is poised to become a leading center for applied sciences and research, contributing to national development and human capital growth.
