Real Madrid have completed the signing of French defender Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool on a four-year contract, the Spanish club announced on Thursday.
The 27-year-old centre-back will join Los Blancos until June 30, 2030, after the two parties reached an agreement ahead of the expiration of his contract at Anfield.
In a statement, Real Madrid confirmed that Konate would become a player of the club for the next four seasons, adding another major reinforcement to the squad ahead of the new campaign.
Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and went on to make 183 appearances for the Premier League club. During his time at Anfield, he helped Liverpool win the Premier League title in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022, among other honours.
The French international, who is currently representing France at the FIFA World Cup, becomes the latest addition to a Real Madrid side undergoing significant changes this summer.
The Spanish giants have already appointed Jose Mourinho as head coach and strengthened their squad with the signings of Spain international Marc Cucurella and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva.
Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries as they continue efforts to rebuild after enduring two consecutive seasons without winning a major trophy.
Meanwhile, the club has secured the future of defender Antonio Rudiger by extending his contract until 2027. However, veteran defenders Dani Carvajal and David Alaba departed the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of their contracts.
Konate’s arrival is expected to bolster Real Madrid’s defensive options as Mourinho prepares the team for the 2026/27 season.
